Minor mid-October media notes

I made some more progress on writing about Undertale after my last entry, but then I hit a wall of Do Not Feel Like Writing About This, so that's stuck where it is for now. I'm not going to let it discourage me, though.

Speaking of things I'm not going to worry about, remember when I was going to officially catch up on Hololive videos? Yeah, that never happened. I'm still watching clips, the occasional stream, etc., just about every day, but I just haven't had the desire to properly catch up on content. Again, if the mood ever strikes me, great, but if not, life goes on.

I did make a point this week of playing one of the games I got years ago, namely, Lenna's Inception. The (unfairly simplified) one-line description I would give is "Link to the Past Randomizer, but designed to work that way from the beginning". I'm about 75% of the way through the game--that is, it looks like that's how far I am based on where I am, but that might be misleading. It's enjoyable, and has some funny writing and inventive boss designs.

That's all for today! Or possibly this month!

Undertale / Deltarune Part ???: an explanation

Since I'm having so much trouble finishing a post about Undertale, I figured I'd write a post about the trouble. That might be interesting to somebody???

My first idea was to talk about each "idea" in Undertale separately, but even just planning that out in my mind, it seemed like it wouldn't flow well. Everything is connected together so intricately that I don't feel like I would be conveying everything I want to with that method.

My second idea was to talk through, roughly, everything interesting in the order that one encounters it while playing through the game the first time (and second and third etc.). This approach got me over a dozen paragraphs of decent written-down thoughts ... but I felt like I was getting really bogged down in details that wouldn't "matter" until much later, and it was figuratively taking forever to *reach* the "much later".

So! Tentative third idea. I'm going to try to talk through, roughly, the *insights* I had into the game roughly in the order I had them while playing (well, while watching other people play). This will require me at several points to go "wait wait, let me explain this thing that's been happening but I didn't think it was important but now it is", but I feel like that kind of recreates the experience? So maybe that's actually good?

(End of story! No moral!)

Undertale / Deltarune Part 1: my introduction

(This post is deliberately spoiler-free, but my subsequent posts will contain spoilers for the various playthroughs, endings, secrets, etc. of both Undertale and Deltarune. Please consider playing these games first if you feel like you might be interested in them, as I'd hate to spoil anyone on something they might have genuinely enjoyed encountering while playing.)

I figure I'll begin with my history with The Undertale Franchise, to coin an awkward phrase. ExpandHistory lies within )

Hololive Catch-Up #1 (2022-Mar-12)

Here is my first attempt to catch up on all the Hololive videos I've missed over the past few months. My method is to go to Holodex and pull up a particular day's videos, scroll through, and attempt to watch anything fairly short and/or that I can appreciate. This tends to be song covers, original songs, short pre-made videos, and segments from the official channels with subtitles.

If a longer stream looks like it was particularly notable, usually because it has a lot of clips listed below it on Holodex, I will try to watch a few of the clips. I will occasionally put a subtitled video into Watch Later if I don't think I can enjoy it right now or if it's rather long. I also tend to flag for Watch Later full streams that I do think I would enjoy even with a language barrier, like some live concerts, karaoke streams, streams of games I'm familiar with, etc.

(Getting around to watching things on Watch Later is a different problem...)

To-do list

I figured I would list everything I can think of, media-wise, that I'm "planning to get around to soon".

1) VTuber stuff

There's my Hololive backlog, of course, which is about 2.5 months long at time of writing. There's also a metric ton of saved links to clips... they're mixed in with all my other saved links, but I'd bet the whole list is >50% VTubery.

2) Books

I currently have 2 books "at hand" that I bought a few months ago. One is an intro to Japanese book that was well-recommended online--I haven't opened it yet. The other is the novel Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes--I've read about 10 pages. No knock on either book. I've just found it much harder to really get into books in the last few years.

3) Video games

Saturday, May 21, 2022 (Start!)

Here is the first in a series of at least one.

1) I solved today's Redactle (#45) in 22 guesses with an accuracy of 90.91%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

(to be updated later--maybe)

ADDED AT 3:48 AM:

I would have put in my other -rdle results, but I realized that I do all those on my phone, so I either need to edit this from my phone (ehh) or send the results to my laptop (ehh). Or just summarize, I guess ... I had a 2 on yesterday's Wordle and a 3 for today's. Gave up on Semantle after 205 guesses, and found out I was not on the right track at ALL.

I didn't whittle down any of The List tonight ... I watched a few reaction videos (couple of TNG episodes, couple of Hololive clip compilations). YouTube is lately offering me clips of Bob Costas being interviewed, which is a pleasant-enough algorithm result. He is just ridiculously skilled at what he does.

Now listening to ASMR to make me sleepy.
